The vision o f the Government is to develop and establish Langkawi as a premier tourist destination. This has been inspired by the untapped potential of the relatively unspoilt environment, vast greenery and appealing local culture. The ensuing development of Langkawi will in turn raise the socio-economic standards of the local populace.

Main Objectives

1. Encourage social, economic and physical development of Langkawi in line with the development policies of Malaysia which will also benefit the local populace at the same time.

2.Establish a development scenario which would include unique features such as preservation of nature and natural resources as well as respect of local culture, history and legends.

3.Establish an environment of development conducive towards the positioning of Langkawi as an international tourist destination.

4.Encourage and carry out the economical restructuring of lower-productivity sectors into higher-productivity sectors, for example, from farming to tourism.

5.Create attractive opportunities for foreign investors using the tourism product resources currently available.
