Our Policy |
 |
|
 |
It
is the Government's aspiration to ensure that the development
of Langkawi is structured and controlled. To realise this,
a 6-pronged policy has been formulated and now serves
as the platform for all of the island's development process.
- Urban
development can only be affected within the Kuah area
(main town centre), Padang Mat Sirat and Padang Lalang
(support township).
- Tourism
developments are only encouraged within the areas
of Kuah town, Datai, Tanjung Rhu, Teluk Burau, Pantai
Tengah, Pantai Cenang and Teluk Baru.
-
Building heights must not exceed
4-storeys, with the exception of buildings within
the Kuah town area. The maximum limit of 15-storeys
are only allowed in certain designated areas of development.
- To
ensure the pristiness and minimal impact on the natural
environment, the cutting down of trees must be controlled.
- The
main padi lands shall remain undisturbed to perpetuate
the rustic characteristics, which can be fully exploited
as part of tourism promotions.
- To
preserve the sea front, structural developments must
not exceed a distance of between 20-80 metres.
