Langkawi, 28th March 2022 – Panorama Langkawi Sdn. Bhd. (PLSB) and Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) are implementing a project with agricultural concept through LADA-PLSB Farm, an initiative under New Economic Project (PEB) of Langkawi Economy Roadmap Plan (HELANG) to empower the local community.

The second phase of fruit and vegetable farming project is continued by upgrading LADA-PLSB Farm through the construction of two rain protection structures with 40 x 80 feet and 20 x 20 feet size measurements, electric fence, and cultivation of Golden Melons with high value that would all be done in stages. Four participants had successfully planted their crops here and thus will proceed with the cultivation of Golden Melons using fertigation system.

“Alhamdulillah, we are indeed grateful that the upgrading work of LADA-PLSB Farm which commenced on 22nd March 2022 has now been completed. SPH is a roof structure that protects crops from heavy rain and direct sunlight. The structure also functions to prevent crops from wilting too early as well as to protect them from diseases especially during rainy seasons,” said YBrs. Tuan Nasaruddin bin Abdul Muttalib, Chief Executive Officer of LADA.

It is estimated that participants will be harvesting about 1,105 kg of Golden Melons and generate a total income of around RM 16,575.00 for two month-period. Overall, the construction and upgrading of this farm cost RM119,000.00 with RM 39,000.00 contributed by PLSB whereas the remaining RM80,000.00 was donated by LADA.

PLSB and LADA thus hope that this upgrading project would economically benefit all the PEB HELANG participants involved so that they increase their income through cultivating Golden Melons. In addition, LADA-PLSB Farm could also be utilised as a learning and training centre for various interested parties to learn the methods of planting this melon breed and cultivating pesticide-free cash crops that are both already ongoing here in the farm.
