Langkawi, 1st July 2023 – A Progress Report Briefing session was conducted by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of LADA, the Manager of LUGGp, and the Geological Expert of LUGGp to the UNESCO assessors. Various achievements, challenges and continuous initiatives related to geotourism, conservation efforts and community engagement were presented to the assessors. Subsequently, the assessors were taken to Kilim Karst Geoforest Park managed by the Community Cooperative of Kampung Kilim. This collaboration demonstrated significant community involvement in promoting tourism activities while preserving the biological diversity and cultural heritage of LUGGp. The delegation also visited the Geopark Discovery Centre Langkawi, which showcased the richness of the geological heritage with various rock formations, unique biodiversity and cultural treasures found in LUGGp.

In the afternoon, this visit session continued to the Kubang Badak BioGeotrail, which showcased one of the initiatives undertaken by the local community, namely the ‘Crab Farm’ and ‘Laktud Farm.’ The efforts in crab and laktud (sea cucumber) farming are seen as crucial in preserving the sustainability of marine life, which is increasingly threatened.
