The Geopark Sistership Programme occurred from 23rd to 25th July 2023 between Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) and Satun UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp). The programme aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two Geoparks and explore mutual development opportunities.

The delegation from Satun UGGp included the following representatives:
1. Dr. Narongrit Thungprue – Director of Satun Geopark
2. Dr. Nattaphan Kecharananta – Adviser of Satun Geopark
3. Mr. Warich Wichit – Deputy Director of TAT Satun Office
4. Miss Ranit Tokrisna – International Relations Officer, Secretariat and International Relations Division, TAT Head Office, Bangkok, Thailand
5. Miss Ploychompooh Thitiyaporn – International Relations Officer, Secretariat, and International Relations Division, TAT Head Office, Bangkok, Thailand
6. Mr. Alen Rasusoh – President of Satun Tourism

Activities:
During the programme, representatives from Satun UGGp visited Geosites in Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark and discussed the following agenda items:

1. Joint Geopark Research: Identified areas for collaborative research and established a timeline.
2. Collaboration on GeoTourism Programs & Promotion:
i. Exchanged ideas on existing programmes, discussed joint events and educational initiatives involving local communities.
ii. Introduced the concept of promoting eco-friendly tourism packages highlighting the Geoparks’ natural heritage to domestic and international tourists.
3. Way Forward from MoU IMT-GT (Langkawi-Satun-Lake Toba): Reviewed the existing MoU between IMT-GT and both Geoparks, evaluated progress, and proposed new projects for inclusion.
