Langkawi, 1st April 2022 – A Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 180 passengers flown by Scoot Air is among the first to bring Singapore tourists into Langkawi as soon as the international border was reopened on 1st April 2022.

The recent announcement made by the Prime Minister on the reopening of international border had allowed the whole national tourism industry to breathe a sigh of relief. Allowing international border crossing for fully vaccinated persons will not only help reinvigorate tourism activities but will equally further stimulate other sector’s activities as well.

“Langkawi is targeting the arrival of around 2.2 million tourists this year. Various high-impact events have been arranged to revive the island’s tourism activities such as IRONMAN Malaysia Langkawi, Langkawi International Beach Soccer, and ASEAN International Course on UNESCO Geopark.

Besides that, Langkawi is also offering new tourism products such as Splash Out, Perdana Quay Eco Marine Park, and MAHA Tower which we expect will emerge as the latest go-to attractions for visitors. In fact, the opening of two new hotels namely Mercure Langkawi and Park Royal Langkawi is also anticipated to bring in high-end tourists into this island, therefore helping in boosting the tourism sector income here,” said YBrs. “LADA indeed hopes that in the third quarter of this year, Langkawi will receive the arrival of tourists from Middle East countries such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, and Kuwait. We are also aiming to welcome tourists from the Europe, for instance from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Switzerland in November and December 2022,” he further added.

During the same event, Encik Manoharan Periasamy, Senior Director of International Promotion Division (Asia & Africa) for Tourism Malaysia (TM) informed that promotional activities are currently being held in full swing in various main markets around the globe.
